Are you Planning to Design a Website??

Posted in Web Site Design, Site by on November 30th, 2007No Comments

While designing or redesigning a web site the most vital part of the task happens before any graphics or codes are created.

Start by determining the principal goals of your web site.

Are you using it to sell your products or services? Maybe it’s planned simply to advertise your offline business, provide support to your existing customers or build your company brand. Whatever the goals are, clearly defining them ahead of time will better guide you in the actual web site design process.

Next, remember that first impressions mean everything. You’re Web Site Design must be professional and portray the right image for your business. Most web site surfers decide within seconds of reaching your main web page if they will browse deeper into your site or click away to another. Studies have shown that this decision is usually made based on the appeal of the web site design rather than the text copy. This means that your Web Site Design has to grab their attention and convince them that you’re offering something of value fast.

Every Visitor’s Nightmare

Posted in Web Development, Web Designing, Web Design, Web Design And Development, Web Designing Tips by on November 28th, 2007No Comments

There are thousands of websites on the net. Each of them have different designs, different concepts, different contents and different themes. They are trying to be as unique and as attractive as possible.

These are the primary attributes to keep visitors coming back. Although these rules of thumb are really common, there are still some to managed to be on a pit despite of numerous tips and resources on the net.

On designing a site, you should put yourself in the visitor’s shoes. Think of what you want to see in a sight that would make you come back or even just stay for that matter. Here are some reasons why a visitor clicks the exit window button when visiting a site.

Font Size

It is not like your visitor is reading a newspaper so don’t use the same font size. It is hard to read the texts in the computer screen. But don’t make your font too big either. It is irritating to see big fonts as if it is meant for people with almost no vision.

Color

Exotic colors or combination of colors that naturally opposes each other is very hard to look at. It makes a visitor’s eyes sore to look at it even just for five minutes. Safe colors that can be used are black, white and red, only as an accent. Combining colors is not a bad idea at all. Just make sure that the colors compliment.

Content

A website that has a non-sense content is like a website that has no content at all. A visitor goes to a website for information. Your site should be informative enough to stay and come back. It is not enough that you have cute images or a huge list of links.

Images

Images that takes forever to download is another nightmare for a visitor. This happens even if the picture only serves as a background or an accent to the design. Sometimes, the visitor is already done reading the content, but still half of the image can’t be seen.

Remember that a website should be pleasing to the eyes and content-rich at the same time. This serves as the mirror of expertise you have for your products, services or whatever you are featuring about.

Controversy Lends a Helping Hand to Search Engine Optimization

Li Ming Wong

It is always wonderful to hear good news. Hearing good news makes us feel good about ourselves, the people around, our dog.

.. heck the world is a better place when we have good news.

Good news might make us feel good about ourselves and the world but there is something deliciously appealing about bad news, especially if it is about someone other then ourselves.

Bad news makes good news copy. Celebrities know that. I once watched an interview with a well known, highly controversial, singer/songwriter, and performer. The newspapers are always full of articles and stories about his exploits (he and I share the same home state so I think the papers I read have probably double what papers in the rest of the country print). The interviewer asked this singer about one of his recent escapades. The singer kind of chuckled and shyly admitted that while the episode had happened it had been blown out of proportion. When the interviewer asked why the singer did nothing to correct the allegations the singer bluntly replied…money. Each time someone accused him of doing something awful kids started to rush to the stores to buy his CD’s, partly because his name was being splashed all over the airwaves and was fresh in their minds when the perused the music department, but also partly because their parents were trying to ban his music from the house. When he was on his best behavior he didn’t get any media attention and his record sales plummeted. So, since the singer is anything but stupid and he has a deep appreciation for the things money can buy, he goes a little bit out of his way to perpetuate his bad boy image.

Bloggers are another group of people who understand how swiftly controversy spreads. They know that if they write about something that is controversial there will be a flood of readers reading their bogs and leaving feed back. Before you know it a dialogue has started, sometimes it isn’t a peaceful dialogue but it’s a dialogue just the same.

The same thing can be true about websites and search engine optimization. Search engine optimization is the art and science of making a web site appealing to search engines. Search engines determine the attractiveness of a website by sending out web crawlers that look for algorithms placed throughout the website. The more algorithms a website has the higher it gets ranked during a search.

A second thing several search engines look for is something called link analysis. Web crawlers look for how many links lead back to the website. The more links leading back to a website the higher that website will rank.

Controversy is a way to get a lot of links to your website fast. For example a breeder of Ball-headed pythons went to an exotic pet show to purchase some more snakes for his store. While he was at the show the police stormed the pet show, using excessive force to remove several of the exhibitors. You snapped several graphic pictures of the event, photos you later post on your website where you sell the snakes you breed. Others see the controversial photos posted on your site, they tell their friends and customers. To simplify things the owner of the second pet store posts a link on his site that attaches directly to yours. As more and more people hear about your photos, more and more links to your site are created. The next thing you know you are ranked on the very first page of the search engines hits.

In addition tot the boost in your ranking you have also sold nearly all of your saleable snakes. Controversy really does sell.

We live in times when good search engine ranking has gained remarkable significance for every type of business. This has led to high demand for SEO companies and SEO experts.

These are several freelancers and companies to help you achieve a better search engine ranking. However, this surge in demand for SEO experts has led to a lot of fake and unethical companies enter the array. Due to these unethical practices, some of the web sites have also experienced a drop in their search engine positioning. In such a scenario, we at Mosaic Services, strictly advocate and practice fair SEO methods and techniques. To put it straight, we are proud to be an ethical SEO firm.

There are some factors web site owners should be aware of while on a lookout for an Ethical SEO firm.

Watch out for those mails

You may often receive those mails in your inbox that promise you high search engine ranking in a day’s time. Well, this is something similar to reaching moon in a day. So, do not be fooled by such firms that offer fake search engine positioning. These mails are often sent by companies that look to make quick money by showing fake ways of getting top search engine rankings.

Guaranteeing a top search engine ranking

There are millions of SEO firms that promise you number one search engine ranking on search engines like Google, MSN, Yahoo and others. However, you have to actually beware of such firms, as there can be no guarantee but only a committed and sincere effort to achieve it, and we at Mosaic Services aspire to achieve the best possible search engine positioning services for our clients.

Understanding the SEO process

Every SEO assignment has a definite process to enhancing your search engine positioning. As a customer you need to be aware of the various methods and techniques that the SEO firm would be following to ensure that you get a good search engine position. An ethical SEO firm would make the whole SEO process transparent and give you details of the process. An unethical SEO firm, on the other hand, would not like to disclose such facts.

Do not go for “link popularity”schemes

Link popularity is often a futile exercise that does little to enhance your web site’s search engine positioning. Beware of such unrealistic promises.

Summary: An ethical SEO firm would provide you with a definite process and promises that seem realistic. Mosaic Services is an ethical SEO firm that realistically provides a high search engine position.

9 Things About SEO That Your Scared To Believe

Posted in Search Engine Optimization, SEO, Marketing, Optimization, Search Engine, Market, Search, Engine, Optimizatio, Search Engine Marketing by on November 25th, 2007No Comments

If you own your own work from home business then you may be in need of some clarification. Below are nine things about internet marketing that you need to know if you want to achieve success.

1. Speak up

Its time to get heard, you may have been taught to stay in the foreground but this is the internet, and nows not the time to hide behind pages and pages of text. Get an audio up. One of the easiest ways to deliver content that will be remembered is to use an audio. Let your website do the talking.

2. Get outside the box

Every site needs traffic but not all methods of traffic generation are suitable for every business. If your getting traffic in but their not staying long enough to find why they should be doing business with you and if your website is producing a hi, oh wait, goodbye effect then you may need to adopt a different method of traffic generation instead of sticking with the conventional search engine optimization method.

3. Get a professional personality

Your website maybe focused on a hobby but it needs to have a professional voice. All the scripts, e-mails, seminars etc, should be presented in a professional and precise manner. Your presentation should always be compelling, memorable and unique.

4. Technology - Communication

Its not about technology, its about communication. You use the internet as a means to develop your business but at the end of the day its how you communicate yourself thats important. Your customers have to be able to understand you and feel connected.

This is not done with an excessive use of fancy gadgets; its done with good solid communication skills.

5. Linking out of business

Would you ever invite people to leave your website? Thats what you are doing when you have a lot of outbound links on your website. Does it make sense to get a visitor simply to have them leave seconds later?

6. Turn on your visitors, not off

A lot of websites have boring text. You want to seduce your visitors with an entertaining, imaginative, informative and memorable content. You may be the one writing it but someone else has to read it so dont waste their time with boring or self-prompting text.

7. Stop going keyword crazy

Content is one of the best ways to optimize with search engines. All your text gets indexed and search engines look for keywords. So what do people do? They repeat the same thing over and over again

because they are so focused on search engine optimization. You got your message across to the search engines but your readers are probably

confused and bored.

8. Avoid playing SEO catch up

Everyday it seems some tech wiz finds a new way to beat search engine algorithms. When search engines catch on they change their criteria. Good for the wiz kid, but not so good for you. You spend so much time playing SEO catch up that you lose focus on actually building your website.

There is such a thing as too much.

9. Did you get rid of all your images and multimedia and replace it with pages upon pages of text because you were worried about search engine optimization and load times. Did you stop and consider who is actually going to go through all that text.

Ethical Search Engine Optimisation and SEO Spam Mass

Link development & Spam mass

09 Nov 05: Four extremely intelligent Californians, Zoltan Gyongyi, Pavel Berkhin, Hector Garcia-Molina, and Jan Pedersen, released a whitepaper discussing a possible method to identify links from spam domains.

Their method sheds light on some very interesting ideas on how Google might judge the quality of inbound links.

Good links Vs Bad links

Since the Jagger update, Google seems to be emphasizing link relevance and link quality a lot more. While relevance is pretty straight forward to understand, quality of an inbound link may be a foreign subject to those not involved in search engine marketing as part of their daily lives. So let’s first discuss good links versus bad links. Not all links are equal. Links from popular sites carry more weight than links from virtually unknown sites.

It is a well-known fact that Google’s initial success lay in their ability to find websites and rank them based on links from other websites. As Google’s popularity grew, some webmasters tried to outsmart the Google algorithm by falsely inflating the importance of their website with unnatural inbound link development. Links that are developed in such a way, with the mere intention of fooling Google’s algorithm to gain higher rankings are considered to be bad links.

What is Spam Mass?

The research team from California devised a term - spam mass - to denote the ratio of good links to bad links for any website. Simplisticly speaking, if 60% of the inbound links to a website originate from spam domains - domains identified to be built solely for the purpose of artifically inflating a website’s popularity - then the spam mass of the site would be 60%

Ranking is not that simple, though, and variables such as PageRank, relevance, age etc creep in to complicate such a calculation. However, the idea bears a lot of potential from which further ideas can be developed.

Applying Spam Mass to Search Engine Marketing

- Why reciprocal link exchanges can pull down your site rank

When optimising a site for better search engine ranking, most webmasters and search engine optimisers will actively seek inbound links from third party websites to their site. A very simple way to get these inbound links, in the past, was to exchange links with other site owners. The problem arises when most of your inbound links are from sites whose own PageRank is also influenced by link exchanges.

Google is getting better at recognizing when search engine optimisation relies on spammy link development to improve rank. The principles Google uses to do so, are likely to be based on concepts similar to spam mass. For example the Google system can differentiate links from good domains and spam domains. If the PageRank of your site is mostly due to links from spam sites, Google will accordingly devalue your PageRank, discount any effect from inbound links from the spam domains and, in extreme cases, label your domain as a spam domain too! All of this can lead to a reduction in your site’s rank on the search results.

How to avoid Google penalties for spam links

The easy answer to this is always “build your site for people, not for search engines”. That doesn’t mean you do not carry out the necessary search engine optimisation. It just means that you should not indulge in unnatural practices to artificially influence rank. Ideally, let your site and rank grow as if it were a natural progression.

• Do not indulge in reciprocal link exchanges with spam type domains

• Stay away from link farms

• Exchange links with your suppliers and customers

• Get links from trade bodies, governing organisations

• Exchange links with competitors, other related sites

• Provide links to relevant authority sites

• Strive to obtain as many high PageRank relevant inbound links as possible

Winning the search engine battles is not easy. To be able to gain advantage on a long term basis, you should opt for fair strategies.

The key factors to obtaining a higher ranking at major search engines are:

1.

And the number and quality of links, preferably one-way, pointing to your website.

2.Regularly updated and valuable Search Engine friendly content. This inclusive of allocation and careful selection of tags and keywords, and web page content that are visible to both humans and Search Engines.

Search Engines tend to rank websites with higher number of targeted incoming links (links found at other web pages with high ranking that would direct viewers to your web site). To Search Engines, a well-linked web site has more value than those with less or none at all.

One way increase your web site’s incoming links is through article marketing. It is a marketing strategy that has been more popular in its online advertising form. By doing article marketing, the author or company gains authority or have their expertise make known within the market that they are operating in. The marketer provides valuable information on a certain niche in the form of articles. These articles are then freely distributed to different article directories.

The key to getting articles accepted by the directories are quality content, no advertisement in the article body and no links or if any, just those directed to helpful resources. You also have to work on a resource box that urges the reader to take action to gain business leads.

Article Marketing entails time and knowledge or money. Businesses owners/ professionals could also opt to do the writing themselves if they lack the money. Having the money, and not so much time or having poor English, a company or professional could choose to hire ghostwriters who would be willing to give up copyright of their work for a price. Or it could also work with the combination of the factors given depending on what suits the entrepreneur best.

Being Smart With Pay Per Click Advertising

Posted in Make Money Online, Make Money, Business, Work At Home, Home Based Business, Pay Per Click by on November 20th, 2007No Comments

Pay per click (PPC) advertising can be very profitable if you know what you’re doing. The first thing you don’t want to do is get into a bidding war with the bigger companies.

When you first start advertising with PPC, you want to test it out first.

Don’t dump a huge amount of money into your campaign and pick all of the most common key words. You have to be a little more tactful. Use a keyword evaluation tool and find other less common keywords and use those to start off with.

You also want to make sure you keep a close eye on your pay per click campaign to see what is working for you. Using different search engines, other than the most common, is another very cost effective technique that will keep your click costs down.

Now let’s break the numbers down.

Internet marketing gurus say that 1 out of 15 clicks opting in to your auto responder from your landing page is doing pretty good. If your paying 25 cents a click, that’s $3.75 a lead. Then typically, you will see one sale generated out of every twenty opt ins. Now using the same figures, it will cost you about $75 a sale.

Depending on what you’re selling, this value is very key. What if you’re making $80 a sale? You’re still in profit mode, but that will take you a lot of sales to quit your day job. How about $100 a sale? Figuring in your advertising dollars, you’re making $25 profit per sale. Now you’re smiling a little brighter. What if you were making $500 or $1000 dollars a sale? If you were marketing online only part time, you’re now considering having a talk with your boss.

Now all of these numbers are relative to a cost per click of 25 cents. That would be great if we lived in a perfect world, but we don’t. How can you apply this to what you’re doing?

We can look at it like “25 cents is too low, you’ll never get a cost per click that low” or you can look at it like “If I do my research on my keywords, I might get it that low or even lower.” What about if your opt in ratio was 1 out of 10 or 8? What if you generated a sale in 1 out of 10 or 5 opt ins? Don’t doubt yourself because there are people and companies with those ratios.

Although pay per click advertising is very popular and very effective, it isn’t the only form of advertising out there. You need to research other methods and diversify yourself. Make sure you have a set advertising budget and stick to it. You also want to track it to see what is working for you. The name of the game is driving traffic to your site. The more visitors you have, the more sales you’ll generate.
